About The Star

The Horsehead Nebula, also called Barnard 33, is a dark patch in the sky in

the constellation Orion. It has been a part of a bigger group of stars and clouds called the Orion complex. It can be found just below the star Alnitak, which is the easternmost star in Orion’s Belt.

A Scottish astronomer named Williamina Fleming first spotted it in 1888, in a photo taken at the Harvard College Observatory. Even though it’s about 1500 light years away from Earth, it’s famous because of its unique shape that resembles something that is seen on Earth, that is, it looks like the profile of a horse’s head.

NASA’s James Webb Telescope’s capture

The Telescope has finally unveiled the sharpest infrared images ever captured of a focused segment of the Horsehead Nebula. This achievement offers a unique perspective on this iconic cosmic structure, providing new insights into its composition and dynamics.

The latest images zoom in on a portion of the sky within the constellation Orion (The Hunter), situated on the western side of the Orion B molecular cloud. Here, amidst swirling clouds of dust and gas, the Star, also known as Barnard 33, emerges approximately 1,300 light-years away.

An interstellar cloud gravitationally collapsed to create the Star fueled by the radiant energy of a nearby hot star. While surrounding gas clouds have dispersed over time, the distinctive pillar of the Horsehead, composed of dense clumps of material, persists against erosion. Astronomers project that this interesting formation has roughly five million years left before it dissipates completely. The Telescope’s current imagery focuses on the illuminated edge of the structure’s top, offering unparalleled spatial resolution.

How Did They Capture The Image?

The star is located in a special place in space called a photodissociation region (PDR). In PDRs, light from young, big stars creates a warm area filled with gas and dust. These areas are important for scientists because they help us understand how things in space change over time.

Because the Horsehead Nebula is close by and tilted just right, it’s perfect for studying PDRs. Scientists can look closely at the structures inside and see how things like gas and molecules move around. It’s like a special space lab for learning about how light interacts with stuff in space.

Insights From Webb’s observation

Indian Prodigy R. Praggnanandhaa To Play For World Title.

Chess lovers in India are thrilled that R Praggnanandhaa will compete against world number one Magnus Carlsen in the World Cup final.

Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa, 18, will face the five-time world champion after beating Fabiano Caruana in a difficult match to advance to the Baku, Azerbaijan final.

3000-Year-Old Arrowhead Found Made of Meteorite Metal

Researchers have found evidence that suggests warriors in the distant past used asteroids as weapons. The discovery is centred on a 3,000-year-old arrowhead recovered in Switzerland that was made of meteorite material, demonstrating that extraterrestrial weapons were used in antiquity.

Although earlier examples of tools constructed from space pebbles have been discovered, they are still incredibly rare. This meteor based arrowhead is just the third to have been found in Central and Western Europe, according to archaeologists.

The archaeologists found the Bronze Age artefact at the Mörigen archaeological site near Lake of Biel in the 19th century, together with other arrowheads.

203 Countries, 10 Years. Without Flying? Meet Thor!

Meet Torbjørn ‘Thor’ Pedersen, a Danish man who travelled to all the countries of the world. This wanderlust traveler did something different. He visited all of these countries without boarding a single flight. He spent 24 hours in each country and spent $20 on his living expenses. He vowed on 10th October 2013 that he will not return home until he has completed his goal. He blogged his way through.

He ended his journey 10 years later in Maldives which was his 203rd country. After which he hopped onto a 30-day voyage on a ship back home.

“There’s a historical sense of returning home by ship – people can see it on the horizon and stand and wave as I come down the gangway,” said Pedersen, “And that seems like an appropriate way to complete the project.”

Pedersen’s journey resulted in some astounding figures that he totaled from beginning to end: 3,576 days, 43 rickshaws, 33 boats, 37 cargo ships, 158 trains, 351 buses and 219 taxis.

The “How” of the Journey

Pedersen had a rough plan mapped out for him before he left. All of which included travelling by road and ships. He endured a lot of obstacles in order to travel to every country on earth. For instance, obtaining a visa for Equatorial Guinea. It took him four months and numerous unsuccessful efforts. He ran into lengthy visa wait times in various nations, including Syria, Iran, Nauru, and Angola. His original plan was to take four years to reach 203 countries. But the world had other ideas and he was way off in his predictions.

Fundings And Help

Pedersen had made a profession out of transportation and building supplies. He had also just recently begun dating. However, his plan and aspiration to travel the globe without a flight began because he wanted to break a travel record.

Pedersen claimed to have taken out loans and taken money out of his savings account. In addition, he received funds from a Danish geothermal energy company that was interested in his project.

Additionally, he overcame a serious case of cerebral malaria in Ghana, made it through a powerful four-day storm while sailing from Iceland to Canada, He also endured setbacks and delays, in some cases for months. The COVID-19 epidemic caused the biggest delay. The adventurous traveller had only nine countries remaining when he unexpectedly found himself stranded in Hong Kong for two years in early 2020. During this time, Pedersen chose to cook, hike city trails and give motivational speeches while working with the Red Cross.

What’s Next?

His last voyage on the MV Milan Maersk took him from the Indian Ocean to the Red Sea. Further into the Suez Canal to the Mediterranean, through the English Channel. Going past Germany, and ultimately to Denmark. Pedersen intends to give up his life of constant travel. He wants to find other ways after taking some time to recuperate and find his bearings.

Moreover, he is eager to establish a family with his wife and spend more time with her.

The Europe Economy Grows After Months of Being Stagnant

After months of slowdown, Europe’s economy has seen a tiny increase. But higher interest rates intended to combat inflation are casting a shadow. According to a study released on Monday by the EU statistics office Eurostat, the 346 million people living in the 20 countries that use the euro showed growth of 0.3% from April to June. These numbers are compared to the first three months of the year. The Europe economy kind of bounced back while a global recession was coming along.

The country’s GDP saw a decline of 0.1% in the last 3 months of 2022 and later was stagnant for the first quarter of 2023. Separately, official figures revealed that this month’s total inflation rate continued to decline. In the eurozone, the consumer price index increased by 5.3%, down from 5.5% in June.

The “Core Inflation”

The bank predicts that GDP will remain flat for the remainder of the year. With annual growth capped at only 0.6%, partly due to a poor Chinese economy, and weakness in global manufacturing. Also, a fall in residential development is predicted. In 2024, it predicts that average growth will increase to 1%. The predictions for a global recession might just lessen soon.
