Twitter is Working on its Edit Button. What are the Pros and Cons of it?

edit button

Twitter is a global social media platform with an active user base of 300 million. After getting Parag Agarwal as its new CEO and Elon Musk buying its 9.2% of share, Twitter has finally confirmed about an awaited feature of the edit button. Twitter is a platform that people use to share their ideas and opinions and grasp worldwide news. Sometimes, it turns out to be a virtual war zone with open space for everyone to participate and debate. It is more like a town having a number of alleys where people are divided based on which alley they belong to. Divided by opinions, its trending results are somewhat virtual rallies where the most numbers will be on the top. But one thing that unites them is the desire for an edit button.  If you are a Twitter user you may have seen there is no edit button for posts. It means, that if you post something either it’s text or graphics, you cannot edit or change it once it’s posted. You have options for either to delete or repost it. Twitter claims that it’s just for security purposes and agenda-free, if you post something and it got bigger spread around the globe and then you change its content, could be a mess.  Twitter’s world-building Twitter came of an age when hardware from physical enterprise vendors ruled the data center. Since then, they have continuously designed and updated their fleet to take advantage of it. The latest open standards in hardware technology and efficiency to deliver the best possible experience. They started to migrate from third-party hosting in early 2010, which meant they had to learn how to build and manage the infrastructure internally and with limited visibility into core infrastructure needs. Also, Twitter’s purpose is to serve the public conversation. Violence, harassment, and other similar types of behavior discourage people from expressing themselves and ultimately diminish the value of global public conversation. The rules are to ensure all people can participate in public conversation freely and safely. Twitter is always conscious of its privacy policies such as ‘you may not publish or post other people’s private information such as home phone numbers and addresses without their express authorization and permission.’ They also prohibit threatening to expose private information or incentivizing others to do so. And also ‘You may not post or share intimate photos or videos of someone that were produced or distributed without their consent.’ How could the edit button exist without violating its policies? Twitter always arguably admitted that they could not give an edit button since there are so many issues regarding security and policies. Though they have been working on it for more than a year to facilitate the edit feature, they never officially announced the date of its unveiling.  Recently, after Elon Musk bought a 9.2% stake in Twitter with a tease on the edit button, the news however pressed the button for open debate. Parag Agarwal retweets with a quote saying “The consequences of this poll will be important. Please vote carefully.” After that incident, Twitter itself shares a post saying they are working on it. Pros and Cons of having an edit button Elon’s poll received 77% of users want to have an edit feature on Twitter. By adding, this may relieve many people but also take up a quarry to exploit its feature and privacy. Pros: Like most other social platforms, Twitter has hadn’t an edit button since its start. But now the news has confirmed that Twitter is working on it. It could help people to recorrect their mistakes like typos, errors, and misinformation. Influencers may post something that could go viral but any misinformation with that can bring embarrassment. Getting the edit button could help them to correct their mistakes. Cons: With many pros, there are cons too. If anybody wants to violate any security rules they could easily do so. Like if anyone posts something that got viral and after some time he/she wants to edit its content to misleading content, he/she could easily manipulate others.  We can expect to see a limited time or limited edit option, or may only the paid subscribers will get that feature. Elon Musk Acquires 9.2% Stake in Twitter, Asks for an Edit Button

Twitter

Elon Musk is an entrepreneur and CEO and Owner Of SpaceX and Tesla with an esteemed net worth of $270 billion. Recently, Elon bought 9.2% of Twitter’s equity share two weeks after he criticized the platform for not adhering to free speech principles. This big leap made him the largest shareholder in the company followed by Vanguard (8.8%) and Morgan Stanley (8.4%). News of the acquisition sent shares of Twitter soaring 22% in early trading. Musk did not disclose what he paid for the shares. Some reports tease that Elon spent around $4 billion to give users an edit button. On April 5, he put a poll on Twitter that asked users “Do you want an edit button?” with mischief options “yse or on.” Obviously, he did that on purpose but users took it seriously where 77% of them want an edit button. Now, the debate is open on whether we should get such a button or not. What makes Musk the famous tweeter? Musk has 80 million Twitter followers, far more than any other CEO. And he’s a frequent tweeter, using it as his primary form of news coverage on both Tesla and SpaceX, neither of which have the traditional PR department in place other companies. In 2018, Musk tweeted that he would take Tesla private for $420 a share and had “secured funded” to do just that. It later became clear that while he was discussing funding for this offer, funding was not guaranteed at all. Musk resolved the matter by relinquishing his role as Tesla chairman, although he remains the CEO. He and Tesla also paid a fine of $20 million each, with Musk compensating the company for his payment by buying an additional $20 million in Tesla stock. He also agreed that all his future tweets that may contain material company information be reviewed by other Tesla executives before sending them. Could Musk buy Twitter completely? Twitter’s $31.5 billion market value is a fraction of what rival social media giant Meta, the owner of Facebook and Instagram, is worth. And Twitter’s stock has lost more than half of its value since February 2021. The company reported that its efforts to tackle misleading content around the US elections cost the platform some users. Still, it would probably be too expensive for Musk to buy Twitter on his own, said Ives, especially since most of his wealth is tied up in his holdings of Tesla and SpaceX shares. Why Did Sri Lanka Declare Nationwide Economic Emergency?

Sri Lanka

The Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka is an island country situated in the Indian ocean. On 1st April, Sri Lanka’s President Gotabaya Rajapaksa declared an Emergency. This is the second time in a year that Rajapaksa has resorted to this measure. To deal with the hoarding of essential commodities when the economic crisis had begun to manifest itself in all its severity he declared an Emergency on August 30 last year too. Why Did Sri Lanka Facing This Crisis? Experts say the roots of this crisis, lie in economic mismanagement by governments that created and sustained a twin deficit of budget shortfall alongside a current account deficit. But the current crisis was accelerated by the VAT tax cut. Rajapaksa pledged during a 2019 election campaign that took place months before the COVID19 outbreak. Lately becomes the reason for the revenue shortage in Sri Lanka’s economy. What Happened With Foreign Debt? The country had just $2.31 billion in reserves, but it failed to face debt repayments of about $4 billion as of February 2022. The largest share of Sri Lanka’s external debt at $12.55 billion, with the Asian Development Bank, Japan, and China among other major lenders. The IMF said that public debt had reached “unsustainable levels” and that foreign exchange reserves were insufficient to repay the debt. After providing  CBSL with a $1.5 billion swap and  $1.3 billion syndicated loan to the government. China plans to offer the island nation a $1.5 billion line of credit with a separate loan worth $1 billion. Sri Lanka’s Aid Rajapaksa’s administration and the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) resisted calls For months, by experts and opposition leaders to seek help despite rising risks. But after oil prices inflated in Russia’s Seizure of Ukraine in late February, the government drew up a plan to approach the IMF in April. Sri Lanka has sharply devalued its currency, further fueling inflation and adding to the pain of the public, many of whom face hardship and long queues. Meanwhile, Rajapaksa also needs help from China and India. A $500 million line of credit signed with India in February is expected to arrive within days. Sri Lanka and India have signed a $1 billion line of credit for importing basic necessities, including another $1 billion from New Delhi. World’s First NFT War History Museum Raised $600,000 to Rebuild Destroyed Ukraine

NFT

NFT (non-fungible token) is an interchangeable unit of data on the blockchain. It can be sold or traded but can not be shared associated with media and the unique nature of each token. In 2020, the NFT market has increased like a wildfire, everybody’s gone crazy about it. After Zukarburg fished METAverse and launched a Web 3 era NFT trading has gone over 91.8 million dollars. However, NFTs have found a new form of utility in the form of “war bonds,” which we haven’t seen before, given Russia’s sudden and impulsive decision of the country. The money raised through NFTs can be used to help aid the country’s defense and help Ukraine rebuild its cultural infrastructure. The government aims to use this money to rebuild museums, theaters, and other cultural institutions in Ukraine that were destroyed by the Russian invasion. The museum raised the sum on the first day of the sale of the virtual exhibits. The amount raised will be donated to a cryptocurrency fund set up by KUNA (Ukrainian Cryptocurrency Exchange) to support the Ukrainian army and digital cyber resistance. What Brings Ukraine Into NFT Sale? Ukraine has received over $100 million in crypto donations since the Russian seizure According to Merkle. The Ukraine Ministry of Digital Transformation created its website in partnership with FTX, Kuna to accept donations, which features crypto donations prominently. In an email “The NFTs are meant to document the war through artwork that features rubble and destruction, Ukrainian soldiers, fires burning, and the Ukrainian flag,” said the ministry of digital transformation, Ukraine  The art depicted in the NFTs tells the story of Russia’s Seizure of the country, illustrating the wreckage of buildings, fallen soldiers, and burning flags – all displayed as NFTs to solemnize the events of the previous two months since the tension began in February. An NFT includes real news published by an official source and an illustration drawn by a Ukrainian artist. To conserve the history of the events, the NFTs will be minted chronologically. Additionally, Ukrainian artists will use their art skills to showcase how the war is perceived by the population of Ukraine – from the beginning until the final moments of the  ClashIn addition to raising awareness and maintaining historical records, the Metahistory Museum will also work with other ongoing initiatives to collect donations for supporting the Ukrainian military and citizens. Benjamin Talin: Embracing Digitalization More Than Just Digital

Like all successful businesses, MoreThanDigital.info was also founded in response to a market deficiency. Benjamin Talin was inspired to start his journey in this industry as he observed gaps and issues in it. He realized the importance of digitalization in his 20’s, started advising governments and ministries about SME challenges and other educational needs. With years of experience as a businessman, publisher, and international guest lecturer Benjamin established himself as a digital expert. He had already begun his journey when he started his first business at the age of 13. Not a boy but more a man he lived in the United States for a short period and settled back to Europe to study Business and Economics in Zurich. Building Knowledge Benjamin sought out challenges and even did not wait for challenges to confront them. This behavior distracted his attention from study and he became famous for never being at the university. Rather he chose to build more businesses without caring about failures. He even failed his first two start-ups in Switzerland and landed doing over a dozen of internships. Now, here is the catch, nothing goes in vain — he created his agency that turned into a company group including a consultancy company and other start-up projects. He did not stop there and opted to do a bachelor’s degree at Zurich University. With gained knowledge, he started teaching at different universities about entrepreneurship, new business models, and digitalization. The days got shiny when all these led to having lots of publications, keynotes, and guest lectures internationally. Inception And Challenges The first brick for MoreThanDigital was founded in 2017 when it started as a blog out of frustration. Now it has grown to the leading digital initiative in Europe and is spreading arms across the world. Before formalizing strategies, the company provides yearly 2 Mio executives access to knowledge that is easy to understand and which is free for everyone. Being customer-obsessed fanatics they are winning the world with business knowledge services. While interviewing Benjamin he explained the current scenario of the businesses. According to him, within the last few years especially the last decade, there was an overwhelming flood of new technologies, new business models, and new challenges occurring in the market. Many entrepreneurs could not hold up with the speed and the dependence on good consultants, external freelancers, and partners. However, these uncertainties opened doors for lots of marketing and BS within the business world which were exploited because of ignorance. These opportunities changed customer preferences too for good. Benjamin believes that the Covid-19 pandemic was not too bad for them. He and his team kept their focus on things with optimism and hope attached. At a time when many businesses were trying to survive, the need for neutral information accelerated MoreThanDigital’s business and its platform. Although it was hard and many of the partners and supporters were struggling as well, personal objectives were able to change the inner circle. They needed to develop big projects like the MoreThanDigital Insights platform in these difficult times. Engage, Just Not Sell MoreThanDigital refrains from believing that everyone is a target. This behavior of attempting to appeal to everyone results in failing to connect with true potential customers. The company has a different approach, they engage their customer base and communicate the company’s central “why.” Working against the mainstream with limited resources is always hard for them because the circumstances put a lot of pressure on the team, partners, and everyone involved. The company’s common vision and mission statement #bethechange prove to be a cornerstone that dictates the important part of who they are and why people love to work with them. This helps to deal with challenges on daily basis but it hits hard to go where nobody has gone before. Constantly evaluating the path – where it needs to go to and what new decisions have to be made – is very important. Criticism plays a valuable factor and part in this evaluation. It is prevalent every single day and there are a lot of disagreements as they do not follow the rituals. Staying true to the ideology is crucial, indeed, but the result makes it worth investing time and energy. Identifying Customer Needs Taking a broad view of customer satisfaction benefits a business. Being at the center, the company always tries to communicate as much as possible with the members of their community. The most effective way is having 1on1 meetings including getting feedback from partners, members, and of course “haters”. They constantly align with the needs but always try to differentiate between the “greater good” they want to achieve and single biased views who only want to take advantage. The marketing model behind MoreThanDigital is quite unique and a totally different approach and focuses only on the customer needs. Adapting this principle as the backbone, MoreThanDigital helps its members and readers to deal better or easier with the future. So they keep trying to expand the platform for better information sharing. The company intends to soon launch the so-called MoreThanDigital Insights platform. It’s a new powerful toolset for companies to detect and identify their weaknesses. Furthermore, TechValley and Academy are planned for the future. They will be a promising cornerstone for the company and will help it to grow to a digital ecosystem and this will, in turn, give more people access to a better future. Benjamin’s Message No strategy would ever work without good marketing. Platforms and especially digital ecosystems are tough and indeed demanding. When someone wants to build multi-sided platforms and especially an ecosystem then they should brace themselves for a long ramp-up phase. They are one of the most difficult business models out there to manage and build. Solving the “chicken-egg problem” and aligning several stakeholders’ needs play a big role in building platforms and ecosystems. Benjamin has a message for entrepreneurs seeking careers in the industry. “Starting with your own funds, bracing for years of hard work and little income, and also

Ellen Voie: Driving The Female Workforce With Positive Work Culture

You might associate success as something driven by personal ambition, but the goal is broader for others. Ellen Voie, CEO & Founder of the Women In Trucking Association, Inc., is more concerned about elevating the entire industry so everyone can benefit instead of advancing her professional path. While finding personal success, her organization is the driving force in creating a better environment for all women. Perhaps this is more of a woman’s way of leading an organization, but this is quickly becoming the best way to change the world. Women & Softer Economics In 2007, Ellen founded Women In Trucking Association as a nonprofit trade/professional organization. She found that women comprised about three percent of the driver population and had very little representation in board rooms or the C-Suite. The sentiment at that time was that the industry was being gender-blind and claimed to hire the best candidates. However, it was apparent that there was not a level playing field. There was unconscious bias in the hiring and promotion of female executives, and for female commercial drivers, the playing field was anything but level. Showers were communal for men, restrooms for women were scarce, trucks were designed for men, and companies didn’t provide women’s uniforms. The most critical area was the lack of data. Since women were considered “statistically insignificant” in trucking, breaking the information down by gender was difficult. Over the years, the Women In Trucking Association has worked with universities and private entities to look at the differences between men and women in transportation careers. Now, research has proven that women take fewer risks, both in the boardroom and in the cab of a truck. Women make decisions differently, and women have different values when looking for a career at a trucking company. Women are more collaborative and better at team building. All of these are positive attributes that weren’t valued in the past. Different But Inspiring Unlike other girls, Ellen has been interested in less traditional activities, such as woodworking, auto mechanics, drafting, and welding. After graduating from high school, she found a position designing material handling equipment at a steel fabricating plant. She was soon offered a transfer to the traffic (shipping) department and later advanced to Traffic Manager. She earned a diploma in Traffic & Transportation Management which gave her a great deal of insight into how the supply chain works. Later, after starting her family, Ellen took her skills in transportation and worked as a consultant to motor carriers in central Wisconsin. During that time, she earned her bachelor’s degree and Master’s degree in Communication. After eighteen years, she was ready to move on, and she accepted a position to lead the Trucker Buddy program, a nonprofit organization that matches professional drivers with elementary classrooms.  In 2006 Ellen was recruited by a large carrier in the Midwest as the Manager of Retention and Recruiting Programs. Her job was to initiate corporate-level programs to attract and retain nontraditional groups, including women. The goal was to increase the ranks of female drivers at the carrier and understand this demographic’s needs. At the time, Ellen was working on obtaining her private pilot’s license, and she belonged to a women’s aviation group. It occurred to her that there wasn’t a similar organization for women in the transportation industry, which prompted her to start the Women In Trucking Association. Reinventing Against Disparity Although women make up 50% of the population, female business owners are still a minority, especially in transportation careers. Women entrepreneurs entering male-populated industries find additional challenges to bring their ideas to life. The Women In Trucking Association has over 6,000 members in ten countries, and about fifteen percent of them are men who join because they support the mission. The organization provides insight to its members through surveys, research, and partnering with other organizations to better understand gender diversity in transportation careers. The goal is to be a resource for the industry and the government. As a trade/professional organization, Women In Trucking Association serves its members. For anyone involved in the transportation environment, the opportunity to network allows members to build better businesses. They believe in transparency and are responsive to feedback. When members feel the dues are worth the cost to provide value to their company or career advancement, they’ll be sure to renew their membership, so feedback is crucial. The organization constantly surveys its members on important issues so they can better represent them. Most importantly, they use their insight to make changes in the industry by quantifying their experiences, giving them measurable goals. Overcoming The Uncertainties Despite such devotion, Ellen admits that she has difficulty responding to criticisms. She cannot help but often take these criticisms personally because the Women In Trucking Association is her creation. She faces a hard time when people try to attack them for something they dislike instead of discussing working together. The world is at a stage where gender diversity is becoming an essential goal in every industry. The Women In Trucking Association is on a mission to make women aware of the career opportunities in the trucking industry. They have always had a virtual presence as an organization, so this wasn’t a factor amid the pandemic. The goal is to hire self-motivated people since employees do not have established work hours or even vacation schedules. Everyone works to complete their duties without the need for oversight. Millions of business owners worldwide faced at least some level of challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Women In Trucking Association was also forced to make difficult decisions. For instance, they had to cancel their in-person event in 2020 and switch to a virtual conference. They had over 600 enthusiastic registered attendees, which encouraged them to provide a virtual option. Similarly, in 2021, they had over 800 at their in-person event in Dallas and hundreds more who participated in all or parts of the virtual conference. From Ellen’s Seat Having a solid foundation, the Women In Trucking Association has future

Microsoft Launches Startup Founder Hub to Unicorn Indian Entrepreneurs

Startup Founder Hub

American multinational tech giant, Microsoft recently launched a “Startup Founder Hub” in India. The aim is to empower startups and drive innovation to drive economic and social progress in India and beyond. With access to over $300,000 in benefits. How Startup Founder Hub will help Indian entrepreneurs? With a $1.79 trillion market share, Microsoft’s Startup Founder Hub gives startups free access to the technology, tools, and resources they need to build and run their businesses. From the most reliable, secure, compatible, and open source compliant cloud platform, to the best development and productivity tools including GitHub Enterprise, Visual Studio Enterprise, and Microsoft 365. Startups nationwide will also benefit from opportunities for mentoring and training with industry experts and the “Microsoft Learn” initiative. For those who want to stay the course, there’s enough money and mentorship to see them through, lure aside the market itself. As new success stories emerge, the number of Indians eager to return continues to grow journey from an idea to a unicorn as part of Microsoft’s commitment to boost startup ambitions to drive innovation from India to the world. As India is the third-largest ecosystem for startups in the world, Startup Founder Hub offers huge opportunities for emerging businesses across all sectors. Microsoft said it continues to demonstrate its ongoing commitment to the Indian startup ecosystem and founders through specially curated initiatives. Last year, Microsoft launched a startup growth and scaling program leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) called Microsoft AI Innovate. The program supports startups in India that harness AI technologies, helping them scale their operations, foster innovation, and develop industry expertise. In partnership with Accenture, Microsoft has also expanded Project Amplify to support startups focused on sustainability and social impact, with hands-on support and technology, mentorship, and collaboration opportunities. McMaster’s Ukrainian Students Are Sharing How Can We Help Ukraine

Ukrainian Students

After the Russian aggression on Ukraine in February, all of McMaster’s Ukrainian students are filled with misery and the pain they feel is not just theirs, but also for the whole community that spans the globe. After being exposed to a multitude of disheartening messages and images from their devastated homeland, it is not surprising that these students find it difficult to focus on their academic assessments. Aleksa Gobosz is a third-year Biology student and Larisa Hemon is a third-year Life Sciences student. In addition to participating in Ukrainian cultural activities for more than 10 years and representing Ukraine’s interests at the national level, the two Vice-Presidents of Fundraising of the McMaster Ukrainian Students Association are tirelessly committed to the cause. “We actively participate in the Ukrainian church. People may think that because we are Ukrainians, we are bringing this issue to the forefront now. However, that is not true at all. We are deeply invested in our culture and always have been. It is integrated into every facet of our lives,” said Gobosz. What MUSA Decided? With Easter approaching, MUSA (McMaster Ukrainian Students Association) has decided that a suitable way to raise money for Ukraine would be with Pysanky kits. They are selling kits that include a kistka wax, 5 dyes, and instructions. The earned money will be donated to the Ukrainian fund. Additionally, recently donating approximately  $800,000 in funding for displaced students, finding mental health support through services such as the Student Wellness Center has been a hurdle in itself. McMaster does not have culturally sensitive crisis management plans in place that are equipped to deal with the mental health struggles that arise for students due to ever-evolving global circumstances. The Situation of Students People think it’s an ordinary conflict thousand of kilometers away, not going to affect them. That is far from the truth as it is already affecting us day by day. Ukrainian students are further burdened with knowing that their family and friends are in constant shelling with no way out. Many Ukrainian students communicate round-the-clock with their loved ones, during and in between their day-to-day life. Unfortunately, the extent to which the war has drastically shifted the lives and priorities of Ukrainian students has been vastly underreported, leaving many Ukrainian students burnt out and emotionally exhausted. Participate in the events and rallies Emilia Pasternak, the fourth-year nursing student and MUSA co-president joined over 30,000 people in Toronto on the walkway in support of Ukraine. Moreover, she said that even though people might not see the immediate value of rallies or events, the experience reminded her that a show of support can make a huge impact on their minds. There have been more rallies and events across Canada and will continue. A good place to find out when the next one is through “SUSK”, the Ukrainian Canadian Student Union. Don’t blame the Russian people All of the student leaders of MUSA stress that people across Europe are affected by the war, including the Russian people too. “Do not blame the Russian people as decisions made by the Russian government are not necessarily reflective of the beliefs of all Russian people,” says Hemon. There are a lot of Ukrainians in Hamilton and McMaster and the only way to get over this is by working together. There are efforts to facilitate attune help for students fleeing Ukraine to support academic freedom. Read More: How Russia’s Theft Legality Will Cost Unfriendly Nations?

Adidas Reveals The Qatar Worldcup 2022’s Ball ‘Al Rihla’ Ft. Messi

Adidas

This year’s grand sports tournament FIFA Worldcup will be held in Qatar. At the showpiece event, fans saw the official match ball on Wednesday 31 March, for the very first time and its design has certainly got a seal of approval. The name is a bit confusing ‘Al Rihla’, at the key event Adidas unveiled the official match ball for the Qatar  2022 World Cup featuring Messi. Adidas said it was the fastest “in-flight” ball ever. What’s New in this “Al Rihla”? Designed by Adidas, who have produced the balls for the last 14 tournaments. The ball has a vibrant blue, red, and yellow color scheme that swoops across a pearlescent white background. First is its CRT-CORE,  providing speed, accuracy, and consistency for fast-paced action and precision, with maximum shape and air retention, as well as rebound precision. Then there’s the SPEEDSHELL with a new 20-piece panel shape that improves precision, flight stability, and steering through macro and microtextures. The sports organization FIFA announced this design is to support peak game speed, as it travels faster in flight than any ball in the history of the tournament. It provides the highest level of accuracy and reliability in the playfield. The ball’s design is inspired by the nation’s architecture, iconic boats, and national flag. “The ball is just the beginning. The rest of your football journey is yet to be written,” written on Al Rihla’s caption on adidas.com, where it is on sale for $165. Argentina Captain Lionel Messi and South Korea captain Son Heung-min are pictured holding the ball in promotional material used in the online Adidas shop. “The game is getting faster and, as it speeds up, accuracy and flight stability become critically important,” said Franziska Löffelmann, the Design Director – Football Graphics & Hardwear at Adidas.
