Hacking Legend Kevin David Dead At 59. What Was His Legacy?

Kevin David Mitnick, a pioneer in cybersecurity, social engineering, and hacking, passed away last week at the age of 59. According to his obituary, he died peacefully following a 14-month struggle with pancreatic cancer.

Before becoming a well-known cybersecurity specialist, Mitnick, whom the US Justice Department labeled a “computer terrorist” during their search for him in the early 1990s, received two prison terms for hacking into computer networks in 1988 and 1999.

According to Mitnick’s biography, his curiosity served as his main motivation. He stated:

“All of this was really to satisfy my own curiosity, see what I could do, and find out secret information about operating systems, cell phones, and anything else that stirred my curiosity.”

The Hacking Legend

When Mitnick began his career as a hacker in 1979, he was just 12 years old. He was once imprisoned in 1988. In addition to his knowledge, he served as an inspiration for several hacking-related movies.

When he figured out the paper transfer systems on the Los Angeles transit system in the 1970s, he became obsessed with systems and technology, and his understanding of social engineering was formed when he persuaded a helpful bus driver to tell him where to buy the necessary ticket punch.

Kevin Mitnick allegedly never abused the data or information he obtained by hacking into some of the largest networks in the world. After charging an amount of $250,000, a ship with 5 people would go to, what possibly is the bottom of the ocean, and see the great sunken ship. But this particular ship containing 5 explorer passengers did not see the ship go down.

What is OceanGate?

OceanGate Inc is a US-based company. Founded in 2009, it recognizes itself as “an ocean exploration venture focused on providing crewed submersible services to enable researchers and explorers access to the oceans’ vast resources.”

The company started this “Titanic Exploration” trip called “The Titan Trip” which gives people above the age of 18 a chance to go nearly 4000 meters down the Atlantic Ocean to see the wrecks of the Titanic.

The Incident

On Sunday, June 18^th, the Titan’s vessel went down on yet another exploration of the Titanic. The vessel takes approximately 2 hours to even get to the site and is controlled and navigated through stations above the surface.

Eyebrows raised when 45 minutes into the trip, the radars lost communication with the vessel, and the ship was supposedly swimming around in the darkness and depth of the Atlantic Ocean with no way of getting out.

Search for the ship begins and everyone is in panic as the vessel has about four days of emergency oxygen.

News stations around the world are covering this story of 5 curious explorers, Stockton Rush (Age 61, CEO of OceanGate), Shahzada Dawood (Age 48), his son Suleman (Age 18), and Hamish Harding (Age 58), and Paul-Henry Nargeolet (Age 77) as they went missing.

Warnings and Predictions

OceanGate’s engineering team was about to finalize the specifications for the Titan ship in 2018 when the Director of Marine Operations, David Lochridge worked out a report which emphasized the fact that the ship needed a lot of prior testing and preparation. The ship was not ready yet and contained “the potential dangers to passengers of the Titan as the submersible reached extreme depths”.

Within the same year, OceanGate received similar calls and suggestions regarding the ship. The letters and calls to the company described the company’s “experiment” as potentially “catastrophic”.

The Hollywood director claims the radars can’t lose communication and navigation without an extreme catastrophic event. Basically hinting towards an explosion or some other event.

“We now have another wreck that is based on unfortunately the same principles of not heeding warnings,” he said. “OceanGate were warned.”

Each having a story of their own, working and functioning all alone. If yes, you have questioned the philosophy of life multiple times. For the thousands of questioning minds of the world, we have World Philosophy Day.

Since the beginning of civilization, there have always been those who have been interested in learning more about the fundamental issues surrounding existence. The earliest indications of philosophical ideas and the search for wisdom emerged from their desire to study different facets of life in order to achieve deeper knowledge.

How Did It Begin?

Our current world has undoubtedly been shaped by philosophy, and the societies of our future world will also be shaped by it. Therefore, it is only right that World Philosophy Day was officially established by UNESCO in 2005.

The Records of the General Conference, 33rd session, Paris, 2005, were released by UNESCO in a 726-page multilingual (Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian, and Spanish) program and conference document in 2007. The declaration of World Philosophy Day was made at this time.

Hiding In The Sun Is A Hazardous Asteroid, Twilight Surveys Report 3 NEAs

Now and then, there is a newsflash saying “an asteroid the size of a football stadium, or the Eiffel tower is headed toward the Earth.” At this point, they are not even scary. But one mustn’t rule out the possibility of any of these warnings being false. Thanks to the protective layers between Earth’s surface and outer space, there is minimum to no damage due to these hazardous asteroid warnings. Astronomers and Asteroid hunters have observed three near-Earth asteroids (NEA) hiding under the glare of the Sun.

NEAs are an illusive population between Venus’ and Earth’s orbits. These asteroids have the potential to harm the world seriously. Twilight surveys made this observation of these hazardous asteroids in Earth’s orbit possible.

The Three NEAs

The three asteroids have been given the names 2022AP27, 2021 LJ4, and 2021 PH27. 2021 LJ4 and 2021 PH27 are both securely positioned. The latter is noteworthy since it has a surface hot enough to melt lead and is the Sun’s nearest known asteroid.

The largest space object discovered in the last eight years with an orbit that might cross Earth’s path is 2022AP27, which has a 1.5-KM diameter.
