PRESIDENTS’ DAY 2022: Honoring And Celebrating U.S. Leaders
Presidents’ Day 2022 will be a federal holiday in the United States. People of the country will celebrate it on 21st February i.e. the third Monday of February 2022. Every year, Presidents’ Day honors George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, and other US presidents, who played an important role in the development of the nation. Presidents’ Day is officially known as Washington’s Birthday as it was initially a holiday to celebrate the first president of the country. But how did it all begin? The Origin Of President’s Day “Every post is honorable, in which a man can serve his country.” – G. Washington In the 1800s, after the death of George Washington in 1799, Senator Stephen Wallace Dorsey proposed that Washington’s birthday i.e. on 22nd February should become a holiday. So in 1879, Rutherford B. Hayes signed the proposal applying the holiday to the District of Columbia. In 1885, President Chester Alan Arthur declared Washington’s birthday as a federal holiday for the entire nation. It is a significant day of remembrance of the most important figure in U.S. history. It was the first federal holiday celebrating the life of an individual American. A Tribute To Abraham Lincoln “Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man’s character, give him power.” – A. Lincoln In 1865, one year after the assassination of Abraham Lincoln; his birthday, 12th February, was given formal observance by declaring it a state holiday in states like Illinois. Why Was Washington’s Birthday Shifted To Monday? The answer to this question is Uniform Monday Holiday Act, U.S. Legislation 1968, i.e. congress passed a bill in 1968 which took effect in 1971, which moved many federal holidays to Monday. Hence, Washington’s birthday was shifted to the third Monday of February, combining the birthday of Washington (22nd February) and Lincoln (12th February). Ironically, the holiday will always fall on 15th – 21st February and never on 12th or 22nd, the actual birthdays of these leaders. The act was criticized by many who believed that this might cheapen the meaning of those federal holidays, which were shifted. But workers’ unions and private sectors supported the act as it will give employees a long weekend. This three-day weekend is important for the spiritual and economic growth of the country. Celebration Of Presidents’ Day In Different States Congress rejected the suggestion of changing the name of the holiday for Washington’s birthday to Presidents’ Day at the national level. But every state has the liberty to give the day their name or whether they want to give holidays or not. Even though the state is not giving a holiday, still no emails will be received as Government offices and even public schools remain closed. So, Washington’s Birthday is internationally called Presidents’ Day, a name was given by advertisers. Even the apostrophe of s moves from state to state, calling it either president’s day or Presidents’ Day. Some states that celebrate Presidents’ Day differently are: In Arkansas, Daisy Gatson Bates Day is celebrated instead of Presidents’ Day In Massachusetts, the state gives a holiday on 24th May to honor the presidents, like John F. Kennedy, John Quincy Adams, John Adams, and Kelvin Coolidge, who belong to Massachusetts. In New Mexico, Presidents’ Day is celebrated on the Friday after Thanksgiving. In Alexandria and Virginia, Washington’s Birthday is celebrated for the whole month of February. How Can You Celebrate Presidents’ Day 2022? Presidents’ Day 2022 is a time for patriotic celebration and remembrance. Patriotic and Historical groups conduct stage events on this day to celebrate the presidents of the U.S. Other events like birth night balls, speeches, and receptions by prominent figures can be held. You can read Washington’s Farewell Address to honor the president. A three-day sale will be held by the retail stores, like one during Black Friday, to increase their revenue. Students can be taught about the presidents and leadership skills on the week of Presidents’ Day 2022 in their schools. You can also enjoy the day with different cherry recipes. Mount Rushmore: A Monument Made In Honor Of Four Presidents The monument was sculpted in the Black Hills in Keystone, South Dakota by Danish-American Gutzon Borglum and his son Lincoln Borglum. Completed in 1941, the sculpture is approximately 60ft. high granite faces depict four important presidents of the country. The monument has the faces of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln. These specific presidents were honored because: G. Washington: In 1789, became the first president of the U.S. and laid the foundation of Democracy in the country. T. Jefferson: Expanded the nation by purchasing Louisiana. He also wrote the book “Declaration of Independence”. T. Roosevelt: represented Industrial development and was also known for his conversation efforts. A. Lincoln: was the president during the U.S. civil war and represents the preservation of the country above all. Concluding The Weekend Celebration The holiday celebrates the great leaders, 46 presidents, of the nation who played a significant role in making the U.S. one of the best and most powerful nations on the map. Hence, these presidents should be celebrated for their leadership quality and their efforts for the nation. You can celebrate this 3-days long weekend following the traditions of the holiday and also going shopping, taking advantage of the Presidents’ Day 2022 sale. You can also teach your children about leadership quality and bake cherry pies with them. You can also plan a short trip with your loved ones on Presidents’ Day 2022 weekend. People Who Love Pets More Than Humans
Animals touch the most intimate parts of our heart: our need to protect and nurture, our need for companionship and love Some people post angry comments on animal abuse news while scrolling a story of other humans getting hurt. Why so? Many people love their pets deeply. Even celebrate things like birthday celebrations, perform proper death ceremonies like funerals and even give equal space on their couch. Some people also feel an equal amount of pain on losing a pet as felt after losing any other family member. But does that mean humans love animals more than humans? Or is it more complicated than that? The weaker among Us Humans have complex emotions i.e. Empathy. Even though it seems to be disappearing from society, some people still show empathy, especially to helpless and vulnerable beings like animals and/or babies. Experiment Conducted to Test the Human’s Love for their Pets A recent study was conducted by Arnold Arluke and Criminologist Jack Levin, which was also published in the journal, Society and Animals. The research was conducted to find the reason behind humans loving their pets more than other people. In this experiment, 240 students were shown news articles about an adult, a puppy, and a baby. The news was fake stories of adults beaten with a bat or puppy being abused or a child involved in a violent scenario. The news article was specifically written for the experiment itself. The level of empathy shown for an adult was slightly less than that shown for a puppy or a baby. This shows that the empathy level is not related to species but related to doing with perceived vulnerability. Conclusion of the Experiment The affection shown to pets can be compared to the affection humans have for their children. The reason behind this care and desire to help is that animals, much like babies are unable to help themselves. While adult humans can defend themselves or take their stand. The children and animals have the innocence that the humans feel the need to protect. So loving pets has nothing to do with their species, and mainly to do with our human desire to protect and nurture those who are innocent and vulnerable. But the other main reason for loving pets more can be UNCONDITIONAL LOVE. Love provided by humans often involves conditions and expectations but with pets the case is different. No matter what kind of a person you are or whether you yell at your pet, they will always be there, looking at you with adoring eyes. Wagging their tail or purring happily! BMW Unveils Its Color Changing Car At CES 2022
BMW iX Flow, from black to white and vice versa BMW created a color-changing car that will disguise itself while making a silent engineless escape. This car is a fun look-ahead for tech geeks and fans of heist movies. A leopard cannot change their spots but your next car might. BMW iX Flow breaks new ground for the auto industry as it can swap between two colors i.e. black and white, using E Ink, the electronic paper technology used in kindle. How does color changing car work? The body of the car is covered with laser-cut E ink electrophoretic coloring material. The material has millions of microcapsules of ink that contain negatively charged white pigment and positively charged black pigment. Stimulation by an electric field brings different color pigments to the top of the surface, changing its color. Advantage of this color changing car We are aware of the concept that white reflects sunlight and blacks absorb heat from it. This can show how this car can be advantageous. The color can be changed to white during a hot day to reflect heat, while it can be changed to black during a snowy day to increase visibility and absorb heat. If the car is lost in a parking lot, the color can be changed to detect it in peripheral vision. The color can also be changed according to traffic conditions and the mood of the driver. Changing the color also required very little energy to maintain it. Why the color changing car is not practical? Even though this car sounds very promising, for now, it is just a prototype and might take years to enter the auto industry. One major challenge is that the E Ink paper demands flat surfaces. The company had to put much effort to cover the curves of the car with this E Ink paper. Even though Clarke, the brains behind this project, and her team have tested the panel for temperature extreme temperature and humidity conditions are still a concern. Bringing the wrap to some of the countries like India will be a very big issue. The laws of some countries do not permit the car user to change its color without applying for such change. Conclusion According to the head of the project, Stella Clarke, Even though the color-changing car is still a concept it isn’t unrealistic and is doable. A lot of stuff has to be done before the cars proceed to production. READ MORE: HOW METAVERSE CAN COMPROMISE OUR FREEDOM EVEN MORE?
Boutique NYC PR Agency Spotlights 2022 Travel Trends
2022 heralds a new beginning for the travel industry on the road to recovery. The Covid-19 vaccines and booster shots have injected a desperately needed lifeline for the travel industry. According to a new report the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) shared with Travel + Leisure, “domestic travel growth has “significantly” outpaced global tourism as a whole and is expected to rise even more in 2022…. Research also shows that while the global travel [and] tourism sector is slowly beginning to recover, the U.S. is recovering faster than many other regions.” To help travel marketers navigate the ever-changing travel landscape due to the Covid-19 virus, Allen Marketing Communications, Inc., an NYC boutique travel and lifestyle public relations agency, spotlights key travel trends for 2002. GOAT (Greatest of All-Time) Vacations GOAT (The Greatest of All-Time), once referred to athletes or actors or actresses, has now been embraced by the travel industry to refer to the once in a lifetime vacations. After spending almost two years cooped up due to international travel experiences, avid travelers are fulfilling the once-in-a-lifetime vacations. Expedia research reveals, “American travelers are going after their GOAT by stepping outside their comfort zone (22 percent) and immersing themselves in a destination, culture, and experiences completely different to their own (19 percent).” Expedia’s research, which polled 12,000 travelers across 12 countries, “uncovered that U.S. travelers are embracing the GOAT mindset by seeking out excitement/exhilaration (41 percent) and the feeling that they have made the most out of their trip (40 percent). The study also found that travelers are more willing than ever before to splurge on their future travels (40 percent).” Family Reunions The Covid-19 vaccines have made it safe for multiple generations to gather together safely, in person, instead of having virtual gatherings. During the Covid-19 pandemic, there has been a trend for those who can afford to buy out hotels, villas, condos, and private yachts to reduce their contact with individuals who are not in their inner circle and to minimize the spread of the novel coronavirus. This trend will continue in 2022 as families gather once again for multigenerational vacations. Grandparents will continue to embrace Skip Trips – grandparents travel with their grandchildren often leaving parents home alone. “Grandparents, parents, and children are booking vacations together, whether they’re road-tripping to national parks or heading abroad for a milestone celebration,” according to Barrons. Rules are always changing as it pertains to in-person and remote learning. Parents, who opt for remote learning for their children, are embracing a new trend – Flexication – families travel off-peak sometimes during the school year, stay longer in a destination, parents work remotely and children learn through remote courses. Personalized Travel Experiences As we enter the third year of the Covid-19 pandemic, avid travelers will be looking for more personalized travel experiences with ample room for social distancing on vacation. Some tour companies are capitalizing on off-the-beaten-path experiences to help travelers escape for a vacation. Other companies are offering private cooking classes to help food lovers immerse themselves in the local culture. Train travel will be very appealing for those with the time to explore a location at a leisurely pace. Thanks to technology, savvy travelers can mix business with pleasure and stay longer at a destination while working remotely. And, speaking of technology, hotels are always exploring innovative ways for contactless check-in such as using your smartphone to unlock your room key or using a QR code to check into the hotel. Wellness Vacations The Covid-19 pandemic has sparked new ways of embracing wellness experiences, making self-care all the buzz during the pandemic. Despite the shutdown for many spas, the wellness industry has adapted to enhance the new wellness offerings – yoga, meditation, mindfulness – for travelers. According to the Global Wellness Institute, “the study projects a 21 percent annual growth rate for wellness tourism through 2025. Thermal and mineral spas show a worldwide increase of 18 percent expected through 2025. Mental wellness will continue to be an important sector in the wellness industry during the third year of the pandemic, as individuals have explored ways to cope. The Global Wellness Institute reports a “strong seven percent growth from 2019-2020 (from a $122 billion to a $131 billion market), as consumers desperately sought solutions to help them cope with pandemic stresses. The largest segment, “senses, spaces, and sleep,” grew 12.4 percent, while the smallest segment, meditation, and mindfulness, grew the fastest (25 percent). The forecast: strong 10 percent growth annually through 2025, to reach $210 billion.” Travel Insurance This pandemic has taught savvy travelers that travel insurance is very important especially as the Covid-19 virus and its variants – Delta and Omicron – put a wrinkle in our best plaid plans for a desperately needed vacation. Consumer Advocate.org has a guide to help consumers navigate the different travel insurance options. Travel insurance will be an integral part of the vacation experience since there are many ever-changing variables as it pertains to domestic and international travel.
