MorningStar Farms on Mission to Make Plant-Based Foods a Norm

For over 40 years, MorningStar Farms has provided better-tasting foods for anyone who wants to incorporate multiple plant-based meals, in a way that suits them, for breakfast, lunch, and dinner every day. A wide variety of foods in the MorningStar Farms portfolio provides Easyntolove, plant options based on how, where, and when consumers want them.

Moreover, MorningStar Farms announced its vision to begin harnessing 100 percent renewable electricity this year. Through a virtual power purchase agreement, and investment in renewable energy credits.

MorningStar Farm’s Vision

MorningStar Farms is expanding its current sustainability efforts this year with a vision to launch new Renewable-ready packaging for selected products and start harnessing 100% renewable electricity. These efforts are part of Kellogg’s Better Days commitment, which aims to create better days for 3 billion people by the end of 2030. Currently, MorningStar Farms eliminated hard plastic trays and introduced foods in cardboard boxes that are ready for sidewalk recycling in participating communities. The new packaging will appear in stores later this year.

Other Collaboration

The brand has also collaborated with the protein-based innovator company, Benson Hill plant. Benson Hill has developed high-protein soybean varieties that provide at least 20% more protein straight from the soil than basic American soybeans. Through its partnership, MorningStar Farms can incorporate Benson Hill soy ingredients that require up to 70% less water and 50% less CO2e by eliminating traditional soy processing. Additionally  use a new soy ingredient from Benson Hill which will reduce the brand’s bad impact on the environment

Our dedication and willingness to push boundaries on the sustainability front is something we take pride in. We’ve made it our mission to make plant-based foods that are both good for consumers and the planet. It’s become a core principle of our brand and having that as a driver we think truly distinguishes us from other players in the space, said Sara Young, general manager of plant-based proteins at Kellogg.
