  • Why NASA’s Next Big Space Mission is the Icy Planet, Uranus?

Why NASA’s Next Big Space Mission is the Icy Planet, Uranus?

Uranus is the seventh planet from the Sun and has the third largest diameter in our solar system. It was the first planet found with the help of a telescope. Uranus was discovered in 1781 by the astronomer William Herschel, even though he thought the origin was a comet or a star.

Two years later the object was universally accepted as a new planet, in part because of observations by astronomer Johann Elert Bode. Herschel tried unsuccessfully to name his discovery Georgium Sidus after King George III. Instead, the scientific community accepted Bode’s suggestion to call him Uranus, the Greek god of the sky, as suggested by Bode.

Why does NASA want to visit Uranus?

The long-neglected planet Uranus could be getting a visitor for the first time in decades. NASA has announced it will dispatch a flagship mission to study the giant planet, according to a new report from a panel of US planetary scientists. The agency always follows the panel’s advice.

The Uranus mission would be the first since Voyager 2 whizzed past the icy body in 1986. The expedition could reveal how the planet, its rings and moons formed and evolved over billions of years. This mission will be absolutely transformative,” says Amy Simon, a planetary scientist at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland.

Uranus is shrouded in scientific mysteries, such as why it almost turns on its side and how it evolved a complex magnetic field. More broadly, studying Uranus could provide information about planets orbiting other stars of the more than 5,000 known exoplanets, the most common of which are Uranus-sized.

Some planetary scientists have recently asked space agencies to send a large mission to Uranus or Neptune, also last visited by Voyager 2 in 1989. Both planets are “ice giants” composed of large amounts of icy matter swirling around them. a small core of rock. But Neptune didn’t make the cut in the report. “Uranus was ranked higher because it’s now technologically accessible,” says Simon.

Voyager 2’s contribution toward the Uranus mission

NASA’s Voyager 2 spacecraft flew carefully beyond Uranus in January 1986. At its closest, the spacecraft got inside 81,500 kilometers of Uranus’s cloud tops on Jan. 24, 1986. Voyager 2 radios supplied tons of photos and voluminous quantities of information about the planet, its moons, rings, atmosphere and the magnetic field surrounding Uranus.

Since its release on Aug 20, 1977, Voyager 2’s program has taken the spacecraft to Jupiter in July 1979, Saturn in August 1981, afterward Uranus. Voyager 2 come upon Neptune in August 1989. Both Voyager 2 and its twin, Voyager 1, will sooner or later go away from our solar system and enter interstellar space.

Voyager 2’s photos of the 5 biggest moons around Uranus discovered complicated surfaces indications of various geologic pasts incidents. Additionally, The cameras also detected eleven formerly unseen moons. Several studies of the ring, uncover the excellent element of the ring and newly detected ring. Voyager statistics confirmed that the planet’s time of spin is 17 hours, 14 minutes. The spacecraft additionally observed a Uranian magnetic field that is huge and unusual. In addition, the temperature of the equatorial region, which gets much less sunray over a Uranian year, is nonetheless approximately similar to the poles.

Ukraine Launches Crowdfunding Campaign “Buy Me A Fighter Jet”

After the conflict between Russia and Ukraine started in February, Ukrainian president Zelensky and the citizens are starting to fight for their country. And for defending their country they seek help from the outside world, at first, they raise funds from foreign aid and then they sell NFTs. Now they have launched a crowdfunding campaign “ Buy Me A Fighter Jet” program. Business Insider first reported a campaign featuring a Ukrainian pilot standing in front of a badly damaged jet, saying buy me a fighter jet. “It will help me to protect my sky filled with Russian planes that bomb my land, kill my friends, and destroy our homes and everything I have ever known.”

What does the campaign website ask?

The website asks about the very few types of fighter jets that Ukrainian pilots need. They are asking for Russian aircraft such as Su-22, Su-25, Su-27, Su-24, and MiG-29. It also quoted the pilots would be able to quickly master the American-made F15, F16, and F18. The website estimated the cost of one aircraft to be around $25 million.

Earlier, the Ukrainian military, said that they have been asking NATO to close the Ukrainian skies since the beginning of the invasion on February 24. If not at least provide them with additional fighter jets to match the Russian air force. But the governments of the world are afraid of escalation of the situation and the conflict may spread beyond Ukraine.

The campaign website invites people who are interested in assisting and could email for help finding, buying, and transferring a fighter jet to the country’s air force. Help with technical and legal issues will be provided, it says. There doesn’t appear to be an opportunity for individuals to make smaller donations. As of Sunday, Ukraine had received nearly $1 billion in help from companies and organizations. Bloomberg Philanthropies and Open Society Foundation donated $10 million and $25 million respectively. The IKEA Foundation donated $22 million, and the Red Cross donated $12 million.

Among celebrities who have donated, Actors Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively each funded $1 million via the United Nations’ refugee agency. Moreover, actors Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis, who was born in Ukraine, raised over $30 million, and Bethenny Frankel raised $85 million also.

  • How Google Aims to Become 100% Carbon-Free by 2030?

How Google Aims to Become 100% Carbon-Free by 2030?

Google plans to be a 100% carbon-free company in the near future. The tech giant’s utilization of power quantity is growing each day as its enterprise grows and universal net utilization grows.

Since 2007, the organization says it’s been carbon neutral. Following this from 2017, Google additionally claims to have matched its general power utilization with renewable power purchases. Over the decade, the organization has introduced great steps to apply carbon-free power, however, still it operates with a little energy that emits carbon dioxide.

With the promises of being carbon-free by 2030, Google goals to perform 24/7 power on carbon-free power. Simplifying this, the company will operate every hour with carbon-free energy. Sounds exciting, but what are the roadmaps of the journey.

Efficient data centres and Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE)

As Google guarantees to be carbon-free by 2030, data centers should use smooth electricity assets and be surprisingly green. However, Google’s data centers use the most of supplied electricity.

The Company says it is the most important client of renewable electricity withinside the world. Each Google searches out there needed a small quantity of electricity to complete the action, servers in Google’s data centers. With hundreds of thousands of searches consistent with a minute and trillions consistent with the year, it provides a  lot of electricity to data centers.

To be a 100% carbon-free electricity consumer, Google has to be cognizant of green data centers and Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE). It is the ratio of the electricity utilized by a computer in data centers divided by the whole electricity utilized by computing devices. For example, in 1 PUE manner, all the electricity is going to the computer, and in a couple of PUE manner that if the computer makes use of 1 unit of electricity, 1 unit of electricity is used to cool the computer.

Maud Texier, Head of Data Center Power Development at Google, says: “To manage PUE, the company uses a combination of hardware and software developments. We have invested in new raw materials for servers that emit less heat.”

    The most difficult challenge

Having an energy-efficient data center isn’t going to work enough, Google also focuses on how the energy is produced.

If we have a clean network, it will be easy for the company to be 100% zero-carbon. If the network isn’t clean in a place where the company wants to build a data center, there should be a way to make a difference and speed up regional roaming, Texier added.

It added that Google uses certain algorithms to decide where to deploy or run compute functions for its data centers to achieve sustainability.

  • Electric Vehicles: Climate Solution at Cost of Human Lives

Electric Vehicles: Climate Solution at Cost of Human Lives

Climate action is the new buzzword. And why wouldn’t it be, one world is all we have and our world is at risk. Countries, Corporates, and Citizens claim to be doing all they can to save the planet from climate change. Green energy is being floated as one of the top solutions. We are replacing coal with hydropower, fossil fuels with solar energy, petrol, and diesel cars with electric vehicles.

Electric vehicles or EVs are being pitched as a cleaner, greener, and sustainable, but are they?

What’s clean for the environment may not really be clean. Hidden beneath the shiny exteriors of an EV is a story of blood batteries. These cars drive human rights violations, extreme poverty, and child labor.

    The distribution of Electric Vehicles

    The Democratic Republic of Congo

Electric Vehicles run on batteries, you know that. But do you know what these batteries are made of? Rare metals like Lithium and Cobalt. The cobalt gives the battery stability and allows it to operate safely. It’s a bluish gray-colored metal found in the earth’s crust, also called crustal rocks. Cobalt has several like in jet turbine generators, tool materials, pigments, and smartphone batteries but its major use is lithium-ion batteries.

Half of the cobalt produced goes into electric cars. It needs 4 to 30 kilos of cobalt to manufacture a single car battery. This metal is found all over the world like in Australia, China, Canada, Cuba, South Africa, the USA, Philippines, but 70% of the total supply comes from one country, Congo.

    The extraction

    Electronic Vehicles
Artisanal mines produce 20 to 30% of Congo’s cobalt

The Democratic Republic of Congo is the second-largest country in Africa having a GDP of around 49 billion dollars. Congo is synonymous with conflict, poverty, and corruption. Beneath the country’s red earth is the world’s largest deposit of cobalt. The population of the country is 92 million and some 2 million people depend on cobalt production.

Cobalt mining in Congo is divided into two categories; industrial or large-scale mining and artisanal or small-scale mining.

Artisanal mines are unregulated, and labor laws do not apply here nor do safety protocols. These mines produce 20 to 30% of Congo’s cobalt where over 2,00,000 miners work in these mines and at least 40,000 of them are children, some as young as six. These children flirt with death daily, sometimes they enter vertical tunnels that most of them are too narrow for adults to enter. Inside it’s like a furnace. The children dig for cobalt under inhuman conditions, sometimes they have shovels but mostly they dig with their bare hands with no masks, no gloves, no work clothes, and sometimes just 20 minutes’ worth of oxygen.

    The process and its cost

    Electric cars
At least 40,000 children work as miners

These young miners go on for hours, after digging they crush the rocks, wash them, and carry their fines to the market to find a buyer. But how much do these children make? Sometimes, their soft hands barely make as little as 1 dollar!

Cobalt is a multi-billion dollar industry. It is estimated to be worth 13.63 billion dollars by 2027 but this money never reaches a child who is spotting and extracting the metal. In poverty-stricken Congo, even a dollar is worth risking one’s life where many die trying to make this money.

ABC News recently profiled a woman who lost her 13 years old son to a mine-related accident. He told his mother he was going to the market to buy coal for her so that she could cook, instead the boy went to a cobalt mine to try and earn an extra buck for the house. The mine embankment collapsed, and the 13-year-old never returned home.

Between 2014 and 2015, at least 80 artisanal miners died in Congo. In 2019, an accident killed 43 miners. According to one estimate, 2000 illegal miners die in Congo every year. Many suffer permanent lung damage, skin infection and life-changing injuries.

    Green-tech car is miles away

Scam races to adopt green energy technologies

In 2019, some families from Congo filed a lawsuit, they named companies like Tesla, accusing them of aiding and abetting in the death and injury of children. The lawsuit spoke about a child, he was referred to as John Doe 1. John has been working as a human mule since the age of 9. He would carry bags after bags of cobalt just for 0.75 dollars a day. One day John fell into a tunnel, and fellow workers dragged him out of it but they left John on the ground. When the child’s parents found out about the accident they rushed to the mining site but it was too late, John was paralyzed. Doctors said, “he will never be able to walk again.”

The biggest car manufacturers are complicit in these crimes. Companies like Tesla, Volvo, Renault, Mercedes-Benz, and Volkswagen, all source cobalt from Chinese mines in Congo. Sure they claim to have a zero-tolerance policy when it comes to child labor but they too know that there is no way to fully map their supply chains.

One worker told the media, “people are dying for lack of safety. If a worker dies [the Chinese] don’t report it to the government. They bury the person, hiding the corpse…and bribe the family to keep quiet.”

That’s your Electric Vehicles killing people even before it hits the road.

  • Twitter Shareholders Sued Elon Musk – Delay Over Disclosing Stakes

Twitter Shareholders Sued Elon Musk – Delay Over Disclosing Stakes

Elon Reeve Musk CEO of SpaceX and Tesla recently went wildfire over headlines after acquiring twitter’s 9.2% stakes. Now, once again Musk is trending over headlines and the internet for being sued by twitter’s shareholders.

    What happens regarding the news?

Elon Musk get sued on April 12 by former Twitter.Inc shareholders led by Marc Rasella. The delayed disclosure let Musk buy more Twitter shares at lower prices while defrauding them into selling at “artificially deflated” charges. They overlooked the latest run-up in its inventory rate due to the fact he waited too long to reveal a 9.2% stake withinside the social media enterprise.

The lawsuit seeks unspecified compensatory and punitive damages. In a proposed magnificence movement filed in Manhattan federal court, the shareholders stated Musk, the CEO of the electric vehicle enterprise Tesla Inc made “materially fake and deceptive statements and omissions” by failing to show he had invested in Twitter through March 24 as required beneath neath federal law.  Rasella stated he offered 35 Twitter stocks for $1,373, or a median rate of $39.23, between March 25 and 29.

After Musk disclosed his stake, Twitter stocks rose 27% on April 4, from $39.31 to $ 49.97, which buyers regarded as a vote of self-belief from the world’s richest character in San Francisco-primarily based totally on Twitter.

    What are the technicalities?

U.S. securities law requires disclosure within 10 days of acquiring 5% of a company, and in Musk’s case, the 10-day closing date turned into March 24. A past-due document should cause a per-violation civil penalty of up to $207,183, according to Urska Velikonja, a law regulation professor at Georgetown University Law Center.

That is a financial rock band on the wrist for Musk, the world’s richest person with a net worth of $302 billion. But the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) could look into market manipulation allegations. Moreover, regarding the Twitter stock purchase and seeking harsher sanctions in an ongoing investigation regarding his Tesla stock sales, experts say.

“This is not really a gray area. He acquired it and didn’t file it within 10 days. It’s a violation. And so this is a slam-dunk case from the SEC perspective,” said, Adam C. Pritchard, a law professor at the University of Michigan Law School.

By now not being a member of the board, Musk, a prolific Twitter user, can hold shopping for stocks without being certain via way of means of his settlement with the corporation to restrict his stake to 14.9%. Some analysts have cautioned Musk should push Twitter to make adjustments or maybe pursue an unsolicited bid for the corporation.

  • How China Leads the Quantum Computing Race?

How China Leads the Quantum Computing Race?

In 2008, the world-renowned quantum scientist Pan Jianwei returned to China and was allocated a lab at the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) to kickstart China’s quantum program. Fast forward a decade and China is the leading power in quantum communications and making consistent leaps in other areas of quantum technology.

    What is quantum computing?

Quantum computing works on the principle of “qubits”, also known as quantum bits, which can store values between 0 and 1, leading to increased computing power. To make these qubits work, several different technologies have been developed. Each has its own benefits and dependencies on which the government or private sector bases the investment decision.

Due to the use of the superposition principle (multiple states simultaneously), quantum computers are very adept at solving certain optimization and programming problems when dealing with huge data sets, making them invaluable in areas such as cybersecurity, cryptography, and blockchain.

    Rapid growth in China

The last decade has seen exciting technological advances in the field of quantum computing, driven by huge investments from both the public and private sectors. A wide range of sectors has benefited from quantum computing to create simulation models (aerospace), large-scale data analysis (space and cosmology programs), forecasting (weather and climate), and the construction of encryption systems (military and defense).

While establishing itself as a leader in quantum communications technology, China soon began devoting its resources to developing alternative quantum computing technologies. Once lagging behind the West in the development of quantum computers, China now houses two of the world’s fastest quantum computers “Jiuzhang” on its soil.

    The catalysts for the rise

In China, the state and government have played an important role in promoting scientific and technological advances. The synergy between the state and the national private sector is exemplary in various fields, and quantum technology is no exception. The government has provided funding for academic institutions to set up laboratories for quantum computing research. Financial support for domestic technology companies dedicated to developing real-world applications for quantum computing. In a way, the state acts as a bridge and facilitator, helping to translate academic research in quantum computing to build real quantum computers and develop applications.

But Chinese researchers have eventually developed breakthroughs in an alternative area of quantum computing technology, such as Photonic computing that does not require intensive cooling. The Shanghai-based researchers managed to create a device that can produce the extremely low temperatures at which quantum computers normally operate.

It took China just 15 years to go from an emerging quantum power to one of the world leaders in quantum computing technology.

Mastercard Files For Fifteen Metaverses, NFT Trademark

American multinational financial services corporation Mastercard, throughout the world, its principal business is to process payments between the banks of merchants and issuing cards banks or credit unions of the purchasers.

The payment giant Mastercard is exploring ways to process payments in the metaverse. And also filed 15 non-fungible-token (NFT) and metaverse related trademark applications with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

    Mastercard’s future planning

According to Cointelegraph, the organization is also considering establishing a marketplace for NFT trading, where customers can sell or buy virtual assets, and propose events, concerts, festivals, and awards within the metaverse and others. Additionally, the brand highlights the use of cryptocurrencies, virtual MasterCard, and non-fungible tokens (NFTs) within the metaverse.

The Mastercard emblem for the Metaverse, like the alternate utility, suggests circles, one purple and the other yellow, each overlapping to give shape.

Mastercard hasn’t officially revealed any plans for a debut in the Metaverse world. In early February, Mastercard hired 500 new employees to advise banks and merchants on crypto and NFT technology adoption. In December, Mastercard launched cryptocurrency-linked payment cards in Asia-Pacific, allowing users to convert their digital assets into fiat currency. Meta Announces Horizon Worlds – A Marketplace for Virtual Creators

Facebook has confirmed its future in virtual reality and the metaverse by rebranding its name to Meta and spending billions to build hardware and software. But the company has, at least so far, shared little with the public about how well its early bets are performing. On April 12, Meta announced they are testing new features in Horizon Worlds, its social virtual reality (VR) app, which will help creators sell virtual items and earn money.

Meta CEO Mark Zukarburg confirmed creator monetization and metaverse economy are really going to be important, in a conversation with Vidyuu Studios.

“There are two new things that I wanted to talk about. One is in-world purchases – basically the ability to sell virtual items and access things inside Horizon Worlds which is part of the commerce equation,” said Zuckerberg in a video posted by Vidyuu Studios.

    What is Horizon World?

In early December, Horizon Worlds launched on Oculus Quest VR headsets in the US and Canada; after that, in a very short time, it reached 300,000 monthly users. According to Zuckerberg, all users with access to Horizon Worlds will be able to buy and sell globally.

VR and Quest are key parts of the company’s metaverse vision, but it seems that the metaverse is an interconnected digital world that bridges VR and AR. In addition to more familiar platforms like phones and computers, the company recently announced ‘Personal Boundary’ for Horizon Worlds and Horizon Venues. Personal Boundary will be set by default to make it look like there is a distance of almost 4 feet between your avatar and others.

What are the achievement and specialties?

One of the big draws to Worlds is the ability to create custom rooms using in-app tools, to which Meta says its users have now created over 10,000 worlds like Rec Room. Prior to securing a $145 million funding round, valuing Rec Room at $3.5 billion, the kid-friendly platform announced in 2020 that it was hosting over three million user-created levels.

Eventually, Meta also hopes to fuse all of its Horizon apps to make them more accessible, which could even include the ability to connect with non-VR users too. That would put Meta much closer to its goal of running its own metaverse which you might define as an interconnected, immersive experience that allows for persistent identity, items, avatar, etc.
